Dog Training for Geniuses
by: Camden Douglas
It is the end of genius hour and this is my last week training easter. For the last 3 and a half weeks i have been desperately trying to get easter to stop barking. Week 11 i decided to not allow easter on the furniture in the house when she barked. She barks only sometimes it feels like now and if she does bark its rarly and only once or twice.

Its almost the end of genius hour And i need Easter to stop barking when she sees someone. for week 10 i gave her treats when she quit barking and it worked well but not perfectly. She still barks when she shes someone but its like a single bark over and over. if i dont give her a treat shes still barking. Im going to try to give her real punishment this week by not letting her on the couch and telling her to go lay down on her own bed for a while if she does not listen.
For week 9 Easter needed to stop barking so i tried to distract her everytime she had the urge to bark or growl; This however has not worked very well so i turned to google for help. It looked like my new plan For week 10 was to reward her soon as she stops barking so maybe she will understand no bark=food.
For week 9 genius hour easter was barking tones anytime someone pulled into the driveway. i really hate the barking so for this week every time she barks or growls i try to calm her down by petting and distracting her. i distract her by asking her to do some tricks.
Week 8 genius hour. One of the hinges on our chicken coop broke off causing it to lean and let out most of the chickens so we spent time replacing the hinge. I took the opportunity but easter only chased the chickens so I put her back in the pin and fixed the door.
For my week 7 genius hour i took easter for a ride to grandparents house and let her spend time there with her puppy for a little while.
To train her we spent lots of time lots of time outside and practicing her listening skills while we were digging up a trench. Week 6 me and my mom were practicing tricks just like week 2.
to keep progressing with the chickens I put the chicks and easter back in the fence and just hung out for a while. I was surprised with how well she done. After she calmed down she laid down and took a nap for a little while. for my week 5 of genius hour I decided to coop up the chickens and feed them some left over pumpkins. I decided to work on her tricks some more while we had some company over. she done kinda well, so later on i got my moms help to train her a little.
Week 4 of training my dog I introduced her to my Chickens by putting her and some of our chicks in the pen. The chicks where unbothered while Easter approached them and sniffed. When the chicks made noise and chirped it made Easter get exited and bark scaring the chickens.
for genius hour week 3 i got some more treats and took her outside to practice some calls.
First I took her out to the end of the yard then told her to stay. I then walk back to the other side of the yard he call her to me. She responded well and didnt take many trys before she had it down pretty well. Next I took her on a leashless walk to see how well she does. On the walk she done extremely well only stoping occasionally to sniff random spots. When she would get caught up sniffing or exporing something she always cameback when I called. |
